Agriculture is the backbone of Somalia’s economy, contributing to approximately 60% of the national GDP and serving as the primary source of income for the majority of the population. The section is responsible for generating, analysing, and disseminating statistics related to crop production, livestock population, land use, and agricultural prices. This includes monitoring crop yields, livestock productivity, land classification, and both input and output prices. It also supports seasonal production forecasting and irrigation tracking to inform national planning and enhance food security.
